Short answer
For tax year 2026, Forms 1099-NEC and W-2 are due to recipients and the IRS or SSA by February 1, 2027 (January 31 falls on a Sunday). Most other 1099s go to recipients by February 1, 2027 and to the IRS by March 1, 2027 on paper or March 31, 2027 if e-filed; 1099-B, 1099-S and 1099-MISC with box 8 or 10 amounts go to recipients by February 16, 2027 (February 15 is Presidents' Day). Forms 1095-C go to employees by March 2, 2027, and Forms 5498 by June 1, 2027.
- Dates on a weekend or federal holiday move to the next business day
- E-filing usually adds a month to the IRS deadline
- Form 8809: 30 more days for most forms (not W-2 or 1099-NEC)
- 10 or more returns in total must be e-filed

How information return deadlines work
- Every form has three dates: when the recipient's copy is due, when a paper return is due, and when an electronic return is due.
- E-filing usually buys a month: most 1099s are due to the IRS February 28 on paper but March 31 electronically. 1099-NEC and W-2 are the exceptions, due January 31 either way.
- Weekends and holidays push dates back to the next business day. That's why some years' "January 31" deadline is really February 1 or 2.
- Extensions are limited: Form 8809 gives most forms 30 more days to file with the IRS, but not W-2s or 1099-NECs, and never extends recipient copies; for those, Form 15397 can get up to 30 more days. See extensions.

Questions
Due date questions
How do I find the due date for a 1099 in a past or future year?
Pick the tax year and form above. The calculator applies the standard rule for that form (for example January 31 for 1099-NEC, March 31 to e-file most other 1099s) to the following calendar year, then moves any date that falls on a weekend or federal holiday to the next business day.
What's the difference between the recipient, paper and electronic due dates?
The recipient date is when the payee's copy must be furnished. The paper and electronic dates are when the IRS (or the SSA, for W-2s) must receive the return. Most forms get an extra month when you e-file; 1099-NEC and W-2 don't.
Why did a date move?
When a due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday or legal holiday, it moves to the next business day. The calculator uses federal holidays, including observed dates when a holiday falls on a weekend.
Can I get more time?
Form 8809 gives an automatic 30-day extension to file most information returns with the IRS, but not W-2s or 1099-NECs. Extensions don't move the recipient-copy deadline.
Is anything I select here sent to EFileForMe?
