Correcting and replacing forms in IRIS
IRIS handles fixes differently from FIRE: no G or C codes, single-step name and TIN fixes, and one correction per form. Tell the wizard what happened to get the exact steps for the portal or A2A.
Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to us or stored.
Short answer
In IRIS, most 1099 errors are fixed with a single corrected record: a wrong recipient name or TIN, wrong amounts, a wrong code or indicator, or a form that shouldn't have been filed (enter 0 in every amount). Only a wrong form type takes two steps: zero out the wrong form, then file an original on the right one. Only forms the IRS Accepted or Accepted with Errors can be corrected, each form only once; rejected submissions are replaced instead, within 60 days to keep the original filing date. Issuer name or TIN errors can't be corrected electronically; write to the IRS.
- Portal filings are corrected in the portal, A2A in A2A
- A2A corrections reference the UniqueRecordId (ReceiptId|SubmissionId|RecordId)
- Send recipients a corrected statement
- FIRE takes no corrections after November 19, 2026
Last reviewed against IRS Publication 5717 (Rev. 9-2026) and Publication 5718.

| A code or indicator | 1-step correction | 1 step (G) |
| Form shouldn't have been filed | 1-step correction with every amount at 0 | 1 step (G with zeros) |
| Wrong form type | 2 steps: zero out, then file an original on the right form | 2 steps |

Rules that trip people up
- Only accepted forms can be corrected. Accepted or Accepted with Errors means correct. Rejected or Partially Accepted means replace.
- One correction per form. A second fix goes on the most recent accepted correction, not the original.
- Same channel: portal filings are corrected in the portal, A2A filings in A2A, and FIRE filings, per Pub 5718, in FIRE.
- Corrections aren't uploaded by CSV. In the portal you correct forms on the Make a Correction page.
- Don't refile an original to fix a mistake; that can double-report the income.
- The 60-day replacement window: an acceptable replacement within 60 days of a rejection is treated as filed on the original date (Pub 5717).
- Tell the recipient: send a corrected statement whenever you file a correction.

Questions
IRIS correction questions
How do I correct a 1099 in IRIS?
Only forms with a status of Accepted or Accepted with Errors can be corrected. In the IRIS Taxpayer Portal, open View Submitted Forms, tick the transmission and choose Correct/Replace. In A2A, send a correction transmission (TransmissionTypeCd "C") with the complete record, CorrectedInd set to 1 and the original's UniqueRecordId. Portal filings must be corrected in the portal, and A2A filings in A2A.
Is a wrong name or TIN a two-step correction in IRIS?
No. Unlike FIRE, IRIS fixes a wrong recipient name or TIN with a single corrected record. The only two-step correction is a wrong form type, such as a 1099-MISC filed instead of a 1099-NEC: first zero out the wrong form, then file an original on the right one.
What is the difference between a correction and a replacement?
A correction fixes forms the IRS accepted. A replacement resends a submission or transmission the IRS rejected. File a replacement within 60 days of the rejection to keep your original filing date.
Can I correct a form more than once?
Each original is corrected only once. If you need another fix after a correction is accepted, correct the most recent accepted correction, using its UniqueRecordId in A2A.
What is a UniqueRecordId?
The identifier IRIS uses to link a correction to the record it fixes: the transmission's Receipt ID, the Submission ID and the Record ID, joined by the pipe character, for example 2024-63385508791-4a6c57eda|10|2.
How do I correct a 1099 I filed through FIRE?
The IRS says originals filed in FIRE must be corrected in FIRE, and FIRE takes its last submissions on November 19, 2026. Correct FIRE filings before then if you can, and check current IRS guidance before correcting a FIRE original in IRIS.
Is anything I enter sent to EFileForMe?
No. The wizard and the ID builder run entirely in your browser; nothing is sent or saved.
Corrections without Receipt IDs and manifests
EFileForMe is an authorized e-file provider. Start a correction from the accepted form in your account and we file it with the IRS. No TCC of your own, no transmission codes.
